Jenny Kemp is the Leader of Learning (Information & Research Services) at St Andrew’s Cathedral School, Sydney. She oversees a K-12 Library service team located across three library spaces. Jenny is also an HSIE teacher and has had experience as a children’s librarian in a local council library. Even though it is a cliché, she really does enjoy reading fiction in her spare time, as well as spending time with her husband and teenage children.
KEYNOTE
‘It’s time to get out of the library…’
As more and more schools introduce BYOD programmes, and students can access all the information they need through their devices, where does that leave teacher librarians, the traditional gateway to information? Bombarded with all the latest trends in libraries, it is tempting to feel the pressure to reinvent our roles to convince school leadership of our relevance and value. However, we need to maintain a vision for our unique contribution to schools. Jenny will remind us of why our skills are important and challenge us to consider how we can connect these skills with day-to-day teaching and learning in each of our school contexts.
WORKSHOP
Murder in the library: genre based fiction promotion
Instead of the usual Book Week promotion, the Middle School library team at St Andrew’s Cathedral school has decided to concentrate their energies on longer promotions during Term 3 for the past few years. This workshop will suggest ways that library promotions can move beyond the library walls (including the use of VR technology) to improve the number of students connecting with what the library has to offer.
Downloading the app ‘Aurasma’ before attending this workshop will help you get the most out of the time.
